Comments on Ben s Corner by Ramon Collins
- Author's comment: I lived from 1979-'81 in a small junkyard-dog-town on the East Bay, about 40 miles east of San Francisco, CA. Ben's Corner was my favorite bar in a nearby village. This story is Faction - fiction based on fact - Portuguese fisherman settled the region in the late 1800s, "Okies" moved in during the Great Depression, two
ammo ships did explode in 1944, the owners had a child severely injured during the tragedy and some of the characters in the story drank at Ben's. Other characters are composites of patrons of my club, the Backstop Tavern, in
southern Nevada... RC
