Comments on One Lie, Five Eyes by Charlie Sundt
- This is an interesting and well perceived concept I think. Each monologue is touching in its own way, with Fran's letter to Lily really tugging at the heartstrings, since I can relate to most of it. Because of the way our courts function, divorce cases are presented as black and white but the reality is quite different. Thanks for illustrating that point with your perceptive writing. Ed.
- I imagine that a semi-autobiographical story like this is a cathartic one-off for the author, but I would like to see the 'five eyes' developed, appearing in another short story with a different 'lie' or subject, so that I can better appreciate the differences between the voices. The order in which the 'eyes' were placed worked well. (I had already been struck by the eloquent candour of the letter at the beginning of your travel journal, so I did not find this story as powerful as I might otherwise have.)
- This is a fascinating look at one problem from lots of angles... love it! Here's a good quote: "The meaning of life is 42." That is sooo true! Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish! George Rolph.
- Author's comment: This story is substantially based on actual letters written by me and my mother when the fact that she was having an affair became family knowledge, mixed in with my feelings after ending a two-year relationship with my first girlfriend, which happened at about the same time.
