Comments on The Man Who Married Himself by Charlie Sundt
- The point of marrying someone is that you promise to care for that person. So by marrying yourself - as some people, both male and female have done - you are promising to care for yourself. Which is always a good idea. As Jeff Lint allegedly said on his deathbed, "There's no marrying a cat." Because cats don't care.
- Dear Mr.Fish, I am studying translation at Université Laval, in Québec City, and I translated one of your short stories as an exercise for one of my courses. (I chose my favorite one, "The Man who Married Himself".) I was told it was good so I decided to enter the translation contest of the department. The best works will be published: of course, you won't find that book in any bookstore but I confess I would like to see one of my translations published. It was a real pleasure to translate your story: thank you for writing it. Sincerely, Renée Lebeuf.
- This wasnt funny. It wasnt witty or clever. This story was stupid. The idea is juvenile. The circumstances within the story are weak. I feel sympathy for those who laugh at this lack of creativity. Sad.
- WAS UNUSUAL BIT NON SENSICAL PLEASE EXCUSE THE SPELLING
- Keep up the good work dude
- Although i hav read in a newspaper abt marrying oneself, the way the author has thought, its unique, awesome and thought-provoking. Excellent
- brilliant.. useful 4 our life..
- i never thought I could take care of myself that well if i just marry myself, it could be a really tough thing
- this story is the stupid as hell and if i ever read somthing like this i would....... to be continued
- The end of this story is great, the ending is foreshadowed towards the beging of the story but you think that the writer is just joking around. In the beginning I thought that the story was sick/disgusting, what kind of a person is so obsessed with himself or herself that they want to marry themselves. The part of the story where all of his friends and even his family ridicule him and his father actually writes down how dissapointed he is in his son and publishes it. Even his mother thinks that he has lost his mind but in the end he goes back to what people think is normal.
- the man should not gamble he should just stay in a nice hotel or motel
- it was an ok story but it was still great
- hmmmm.....very good
- This was a very funny story. I told some of my friends and they laughed and laughed :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- no body likes u
- this story is just wonderful! it's really useful to ask and see if you are good enough for your self before you share your life with someone else. wife/husband. it's interesting story and i think everyone should read it to have an idea and ask themselves if they can be good for them selves. before involving them selves with other mate; so that the relationship could last.
- Too bad he had to divorce himself to have a son. He should have adopted... you know... himself!!
- Oh No! I have been in a Chinese University for several months trying to defend some of America's most bizarre behavior in the world. One of the Chinese students told me about this story and thought it was TRUE!
- This story was really funny, we can think that the narrator is narcissistic but he really believes in his future with himself, it's surprising, I like it and it isn't difficult to understand which isn't always the case with humourous stories. Moreover when he really realizes his mistake it's very funny because he is ridiculous and afterwards he eventually wants to marry a woman.
- i wish i could marry myself
- this story rocks dude!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Hello Charlie, Yes! the man who married himself is absolutely one of my favourite short stories. I've a huge collection of short stories and never cease to be amazed, amused, appalled or moved to tears by the content of the stories. Keep up the good words! Carol (Carol Hinds ¦ Broadcast Journalist ¦ BBC East Midlands Today ¦ London Road ¦ Nottingham ¦ NG2 4UU)
- Carol Hinds - East Midlands Today presenter: Carol is a fan of short stories. Her favourite is a story titled 'The Man Who Married Himself' by Charlie Fish. She says, "It's three pages long and it's all about this man that decides instead of looking for Miss Right he decides to marry himself... it's very bizarre!"
- Hello, my name is Sebastião Soares and i live in Brazil. First of all i'd like to introduce myself: I study performing arts at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco; I am an actor and dancer. In the beginning of this year i started directing a small scene to show to my teacher. It was for a subject called "Encenação" (staging), in other words i should direct a scene. So i should write a project, find a good text, organize actors, costumes, so on... One day i was readind a Brazilian Magazine for English learners called "Speak Up', when i read your text The man who married himself. I thought it was perfect... I told to my teacher and he loved your way of writing. I adapted to the stage and to my language, Portuguese. Everybody enjoyed a lot. And they know that the text is yours!!!!! So i wrote this e-mail because i don't want it to die, the presentation was really good. I need your authorization to transform this college work in a professional one. I think it is a good opportunity to show your work to the Brazilian people. Thank u for your attention, Sebastião Santo
- today i read your story, the man who married himself. i like it so much. i am in china. and like writing. would you mind telling me if i can translate your stories into chinese and share them with my fellow chinese? i am looking forward to hearing from you soon. yours christy
- Greetings! I have selected your short story "The man who married himself" to present to my oral interpretation class this week at Hampton Univeristy in Virginia. I wanted to know what your inspiration/purpose was in writing the piece. Additionally, any biographical information would be of the utmost help as it is required for the class. I really like this piece and I would really enjoy finding out how you came up with such an unusual story. If there is anything else yoiu think I would enjoy knowing, feel free to let me know. Thank you for your time, and I am eagerly awaiting your response!
- This story was sooo entertaining! I was falling off my seat, dying with laughter!
- This story was fantastic I loved it a very good and brilliant story I think I am going to marry myself
- well ya u see this story wasnt all that good and trust me i know good storie i read alot of books cuz its are assignment im locked up in the salt lake vally D.T well thats me oppinion
- this story is a good one it is very funny and i enjoyed it thank you
- hmmm....
- The story is absolutely funny and different. If reading a story that has a man that married himself isn't funny than I don't know what is. The story is jam packed with deeply thought out details. What makes this story so funny, to me, is that this man actually went to a church and got married. To top it off, the author had him go on his honeymoon. I love how the author put the character's emotions in the story like when he felt lonely because he wants to have a child so he wants to file for divorce, but he can't because he doesn’t have enough reason to do so. The story was just outrageously funny. The character thought the only way he could get out of this marriage was to comment adultery. I still can't believe that this man married himself and for a moment he was actually happy with it too. I can't believe that this man is very intimate with himself that's mad crazy, but so interesting. What made you write such a unique story like this? Honestly, the author created enough detail to show that this man is messed up in the mind to actually go through something like this.
- this is just a hilarious story. we shared this story in our class and everybody ended up laughing like they hadn't laughed in fourteen years. its fun. a must read story by charlie fish...
- i enjoyed the is story it was very funny
- Just to be ohnest ,IT did scare me alittle bit.it made me see who Ireally am /though iIm gonna change cause Iv learned from THE BEST.Ijust cant thank you enough...
- it was stupid
- This story was so stupidly funny it was hilariously brilliant! Kinda like those poor folks you might see on the street who are so ugly they are cute. Great read. Laughed so hard at one point my daughter thought I was crying! :)
- To be totally honest, to myself and to others, I thought that story was more psychologically interesting in the perspective of what was going through the author's head when he was writing this story, rather than a belly aching funny story. Don't get me wrong or anything, I thought the story was rather good. It was very different, and new, but also a bit over rated. A bit silly actually. So silly and ridiculous, it wasn't as funny as it would have been, should it have been more realistic. I mean, come on! Who would want to marry themselves??
- I love your story! I love it so much I would like to use it in a film I am making. Please contact me and tell me what you think of my idea. I have already made a screenplay and script. I can't wait to hear from you!!! Thank you! Isa M. Toronto
- Hello, Charlie Fish. I was impressed with your story: "The Man Who Married Himself" and I want to use it on exam of English L-ge. May I? Please let me analyse your great story on exam and send me please your short biography (I need it for exam). Thank you! 05.02.2006 Victor Lushov (Kazakhstan)
- delightfully unique I had a blast reading it. upasna
- What's the point of this story - it is neither interesting or thoughtful. Definitely not a page turner.
- I really enjoyed your story. I never thought that anyone would even consider marrying themself. I really like the father, "my self" that really cracked me up. Hats off to you Charlie Fish.
- Very clever and expertly done. I don't know if it was meant to be a satire on the same-sex marriage controversy, but it reads quite nicely as such whether it was intended or not.
- Yes, I shall MARRY MYSELF! BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Somehow that seems both hilarious and wrong at the same time. Which really means you did a rather good job! Thanks!
- Oh my I love it, I am at work and was just handed a copy, Hilarious writing thank you!!
- Charlie, Congrats on the story for the Masterfile piece...I actually read a whole promotional piece..I think that has to be a first. Best of luck to you. Molly Kromhout. Milton Glaser, Inc.
- wierd story never heard of a story where a guy married himself! -dayah-
- This story is very stupid. I think the man is a little psychotic and probably needs to go for councelling and treatment. - Selena
- I find this story is amusing and ridiculous, but it did happen. I guess there's only one word to describe it . CRAZY - Gabriel.
- this is a stupid story but i like it
- it soooo funny!!
- this is a unique piece of essay.. its so funny
- interesting.
- I couldn't help laughing. a brilliant idea. ~Y.
- Ingenious idea and great pace. I laughed out loud. I will show this to my writing crew. Excellent, Mr. Fish.
- Really was not that funny. A little offensive to the christian religion or Malaysian females maybe. Odd topic and I'm all for odd thats why I love Sorrentino but this is nowhere near as good as him!
- This is very interestng story. It makes me think of myself. Actually, I don't want to marry myself. But it depends on person. Someone want to marry themselves. It is very interesting!! This story changed my way of thinking about marriage. Although this story is funny, this is a little serious.
- wow!!! brilliant balance of comedy and with true-to-life undertones...this story rocks!
- Nice idea, I never thought of doing that, but now I'm going to look into it. Jk. This was a very well-written piece.
- I laughed til I cried while reading this story, and the funniest part is... I understand Exactly what he's talking about!!!!!!!!
- Hi Charles, I am a young filmmaker in Hamburg, Germany. I read your short stories and I like them a lot. In fact, I think you are pretty talented. What I did is I took your idea from "The Man Who Married Himself" and wrote a short film around it. I invented some pictures, cut some stuff here and there, so it is now a cute little piece of screenplay. I would love to shoot it with my friends but as I am aware of the rights combined with this I wanted to ask you for your approval.
- strange yet simply interesting..you captured attention and earned it
- a tad bland and not that funny
- The idea of multitable selves (or marrying yourself) is not really new (this is, of course, because most writers are lonely bastards with plenty of time to consider all sorts of wacky ideas) and this doesn't really add anything new to it, but it does have some good one-liners (I'm not being condesending (or spelling correctly) (or using brackets correctly)), too many writers now don't spend enough time on making their stories entertaining). So, all in all, it would be cool to see some other writing from this author that has a more original premise or no premise at all.
- No less than excellent! A light read and extremely entertaining!
- This story really brightened up my evening. Fantastic!
- Excellently written, witty piece. Reminiscent of early works of Jack Smyth. Well done!
- Bravo, clever one. I'm looking for more of your reads.
- This History was very funny and good. The Man How Married Himself hahahaha. Tim
- Quick - easy to read - and clever.
- I like the way the narrator describes his marriage with himself. It is in such a serious way that it just makes it that much funnier.
- I'M VERY WELL ENTERTAINED. GREAT. FANTASTIC. AND NO COMMENT AT ALL!?... KEEP IT UP!
- I gues it's easy to confuse the writer and the character. The Character is surely and freekin idiot with a split personally and the psyciatrist should give out business cards to the parents, friends and PREACHER for attending. For the writer, not too shabby at all and it showed the extreme houw egotistic and selfcentered people can go if society does stop them. So next week preacher will marry father and the French poodle? ... Why not?
- I thought it was very funny, and I was going to use it for my Speech Team since I am doing the humorous category, but I will have to edit some parts with swear words (the judges are pretty strict). Very nice job.
- This story is totally brill!!! I am reviewing/researching it for a project at school!!! Thank-you Charlie Fish (if that is your real name)!!! Fantastic read! Short, easy and magical!!! Rachie s. xxx
- It was really good and had a lot of humour
- Excellent! I don’t know how to describe it. It’s very interesting to me. I laughed at this it as far, and I think you are better writer that you should try more works...
- This is a good self reflection story. It's good because it makes you wonder all through the story 'why?????', but I guess we live in a weird world, and it's quite hard to find weird things anymore since all seems to have been invented. But I must say this idea is very fresh :)
- Very funny. What a good idea!
- Hey this shouldn't be put in the PG section!
- This was alright. Wasn't brilliant, didn't make me laugh, but, c'mon people, it wasn't STUPID. (For everyone who's flamed it.) At least it was a creative idea, no? Kudos for that.
- Ok, the part about the Maylasian girl needs to go!! This story wasnt all that good!I mean, what is it with authors these days, they act like that a story isnt good if you put junk like this in it!!!!!!!!!!
- Excellent! The subject was different. The approach was first person and first rate. It tackles a moral dilemma of our time with wit and humor and the hook at the end was awesome!
- one word!!.....clever
- Good stuff!! Very enjoyable to read!!!
- However, the Bible does say you cannot have relations with a person of the same sex. So, the story lost my attention at first, but I continued reading and it was ok. Unfortunately I can get hung up on something in the beginning and can't really enjoy the rest. If he had just left out the part of the Bible and had somebody else perform the ceremony it would have been a funnier story.
- brilliantly written and keeps you eager to the very end. quirky
- Hi! I read your story The Man Who Married Himself, and I thought it was so funny! I'm a part of my high school's speech team and I'm thinking about using your piece for tournaments this year. I was wondering if this piece has been published in any books or anything like that. And, if it has, can you please give me that information. Before I commit myself to a piece, I have to know that it has been published because as I get farther competing that's a requirement. Thanks!
- Hello! My name is Katya and I'm from Ukraine. I'm very fond of your story "The Man Who Married Himself". It's really nice and funny. It's given me 10 minutes of laugh and a very good mood till the end of the day :) Thank you!
- I loved the story. I thought it was very funny, and it really makes you think. I mean not that I would marry myself or anything. It's just something really cool and funny to think about. I liked it a lot.
- Hello. I am a senior in high school and I have to do this interpretive reading for my senior speech. I read your short story "The Man Who Married Himself" and loved it so I chose to read that. The problem is that the first two minutes of my speach have to be on background information on the writer. Since I can't find too much background info on you on the net, I was wondering if you would be willing to send me just a little information about yourself. Things like why you wrote the story and personal facts about your life etc. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Pat
- Dear Charlie Fish, my name is Christine Singer and I am from Bavaria, Germany. Recently my English teacher asked me to prepare a presentation on the short story "The Man Who Married Himself" and his author as we have been learning about short stories the last few weeks. I was searching the Internet to find some information about you, the writer, which turned out to be very hard. To my surprise I found out that you were born in 1980, which means you are just 5 years older than me. I must say I am impressed, also because we have been reading your story along with stories of Hemingway, Faulkner, Irving, Poe, etc...
- Hi mister FISH, my name is Jerome BOUVARD. I am a student in an enginering school in france, and this semester we had to choose a contemporary short story to present. I chose your story of the man who married himself, which is in my view, very funny and clearly written. Would it be possible for you to send me some elements of your biography and your bibliography to do my presentation? Thanks a lot in advance, best regards, J. Bouvard
- hello my name is Scott Leavitt and for my college english class we have to do a writers response, and i was wondering if you could tell me a little more about your self than what is on the web site. (how you got started in writing...) I was also wondering if you could give me a little insight in to the man who married himself. (why you wrote it what it means)
- Hi Charlie. I'm an educator in Singapore. Was wondering if you'd mind me using an adapted excerpt of your story "The Man Who Married Himself" for teaching purposes. I'd ensure that proper acknowledgement is done, of course. Thanks. Regards. Daphne C
- Hi, I'm a student in Vietnam. My friends and I are required to present a short story to our teacher and other classmates and after a long time of surfing the net and leaving out lots of stories we came to your story "The Man who Married Himself". We found it a very interesting story and since our classmates all presented stories from dead authors like Charles Dickens and Saki, we thought that a story from a young writer may be a good change. We like your story very much. Best regards, AN Nhien
- This story was well thought out for the subject that it was, but I think it was extremely disturbing and I didn't like it at all.
- Hahaha!!! It's so awesome. I loved it... keep up the good work charlie ;)
- prettyyyyy funnnyyy buttt.. errr... !@#$ing weird :p good thinkin charlie !!!
- What do you mean when you say dramatic effect and fairer sex
- Interesting! I'm checking our state laws now. You never know... Well written. Kenk
- Well the title sure doesn't lead you off course... well done.
- Not bad story
- Good story, I reckon the writer should have focused on the man marrying himself, and his inability to get a divorce, thats where I thought the story was leading and added most of the humour for me. Should've had a witty comment about divorce as well. But the ending seemed like a non event.
- Charlie, What a stunning short story! I have written a screenplay for a short film based on this your excellent story. I hope to shoot it as a low/no budget short film soon in Ireland. Can I have your blessing to do so? Greg Corcoran
- It was kind of funny kind of boring it was a ok story to read sounds like a joke book story
- Reading this text made me happy on a day that was quite bad beforehand... LOVED IT!! Just my kind of humour, and that kind of humour is goooooood ;)
- To the minority who complained about this story being unrealistic - oh dear. Fiction doesn't have to be an accurate portrayal of "real life". One of the best things about this story is the sheer imagination that has gone into it. Loosen up a bit.
- This short-story presented in an utterly hilarious way, a very real issue that calls for self-reflection; would I marry myself? Not only are the jokes and one-liners hilariously twisted, but the piece proves to be beyond just passive reading, and can apply to virtually everyone considering marriage as a possibility. It makes light of a very real issue, forcing one to laugh at oneself and relax about even the serious parts of life. I hold the same opinion as most everyone on this site who enjoys a simple read and a good laugh; the story was brilliantly spoken and hilariously forward. Well done!
- I think that the story was pathetic. Maybe it would have been a joke but from my understanding he married himself. It seems like a waste of money, time, and a cry for attention. I do not think that it was funny at the least. Even though many people did I believed it to be sad. I do understand the cleverness of the idea to marry yourself. But I do not see the funniness of the situation.
- I think that was a very interesting and funny story. It made me laugh so much. I really love how his father reacted to the whole situation. I really do think he did go crazy. I am so glad that Charlie ended up finding his wife and have the child that he wanted. I agree that the story has an underlying moral to love yourself and to think if it is possible to live with yourself. I also thought it was very cute and funny that Bishop Fleming married his beloved French poodle. I agree that it was very hilarious! I really want to read the rest of the book.
- I thought the story was funny, but very simple. I think you went into as much detail as you could, going by the subject. I don't agree with some of you who think the story was hilarious, but I don't agree with those of you who think it was lame. The story really does make you think about who you are as a companion, and it is a test to see how satisfied you are with yourself. Nice story.
- Now I don't think it was hilarious. It was interesting but some parts were kinda lame.
- Well-written, funny and enjoyable! 10/10 - George.
- Some very good stuff; could easily be much longer and still be very interesting.
- Great story!!!
- I really liked this story. It was funny, but really clever. It sounds as if it's true too, which is kind of scary... Great job anyway.
- With all the talk about sex it's a wonder this wasn't rated PG-13. Otherwise a good read... very funny.
- I like how it relates to reflecting myself and start thinking about if i make a good person to live with.
- This short story was not bad... it was a waste of time, but it was kind of funny.
- I'm aghast at how easily everyone here is pleased. The author thought of one not-quite-original concept, and tried to build a very weak story around it. Admittedly there were some funny one-liners (but just as many jokes that fell flat.) Totally unbelievable, not well thought out, and not very funny at all.
- I must say I found your short story very, very captivating. It's exactly the refreshing type of material I have been looking for; something that bends the rules and really has something to say-politically correct or not. I live in Toronto, I'm 25 and I work in film and television. I recently completed a short film called "Good To Go", which I wrote, directed and produced. Although quite different, I must say our two pieces are similar in humour as well as tongue in cheek. It has been hard to find something worth putting effort into since my last project but after reading your short, animated images have popped into my head. I think it would work very well as a Calling Card film (20 minutes). I'm not sure if you've ever explored script writing, but if you are interested I would love to collaborate with you.
- Has this ever been published in a magazine or short story collection? I coach the school speech team and a young man has been performing this piece in PROSE and winning. I need to have an ISBN number or a copyright number or somesuch to show for entry into the Nationals. Is there any information you can give me towards that???
- An excellent story Charlie. Its both witty and novel. A surreal look at relationships, a topic that has become boring due to rehash from all angles.. I am a student filmmaker and I would love to make this into a short film. I think it would be brilliant.
- I thought this was a fun story.
- It was good to read a story that did not contain typing mistakes, bad grammer, incorrect use of words, etc. I enjoyed the story and I would like to read more from this author. Good Job!
- It was a good story... funny at parts
- It was okay... odd subject... funny ending
- Could use some dialogue.
- I think this story is essentially about us loving ourselves, and asking ourselves if we're really suitable as a spouse for someone else. If we liked ourselves as a spouse, we would be a better husband/wife, and that's what happened to the guy in the story. Very refreshing!
- Typical males!
- One of the funniest stories I have ever read!
- Absolutely innovative & creative. Not a true story by any chance? :)
- Not too bad. It would be a good HI piece.
- Completely stupid story. I agree, Charlie needs help. This story was terrible!!!!
- Hahah... well funny :)
- Hilarious. A real breath of fresh air. There is a lightness, a flow to Charlie's writing that seems to create intelligent humor out of subject matter that commonly would be deemed very over-the-top. A great chop to the groin. I think I'll share this one around a bit.
- One of the funniest short stories I've read in ages. However, the best thing about it was the inherent message about loving oneself, which wasn't rammed down our throats, but allowed to seep into our subconscious organically.
- This is very funny and enormously entertaining.
- pa thetic
- It's okay, funny in places.
- um, charlie, you need help
- Unique ideas, funny yet intriguing story line. If you take note of the fact that the story sounds quite true. It could happen...
- I can't help myself, I've got to use it----LOL LOL! What a gem, Charlie. Full of good (almost wholesome) humor, and flows like red, red wine..... thanks for the belly-laff.
- Verrrrrrrrry realistic!! Well found!
- Brilliant! No other word describes this. It's not so much the humour as the idea. Very refreshing, thank you for writing it.
- The story is hilarious but hey, a plain-faced Malaysian girl?? Disappointing?? Knew nothing?? You have been warned!!!
- What absolute fodder
- I wish I could marry myself!
- Hello People. I liked the story so much that I am going to be performing it at a Prose Reading, Speech & Debate competition. I have to cut out the part about the Malaysian girl, but other than that I hope my judges will like it. PS I hope they are NOT 99 year old, Christian, conservative ladies.
- This story was hilarious! I laughed so hard, my husband and son thought I was losing control of myself. This is something to think about. I really enjoyed reading this story, and I will share this with others. I'm still tickled to death, and my face hurts from laughing. Good luck!
- I did hear of two real-life self-marriages: a Californian woman's that predates this story, and a Scottish woman's in 2003. 'I was separating to stop myself from going blind' is a memorably witty line; ever heard the song 'Turning Japanese' by The Vapors (1980)?
- I was sssooo very impressed with your story. Your ideas are brilliant, keep them coming. Joshua Pearson
- We are teachers at a language school in Brazil and we were looking for short stories to work with our students in class when we came across your hilarious story. We nearly wetted ourselves laughing. It's, by all means, an excellent story. Thanks for making our day a bit funnier.
- "At least the local psychiatrist (specialising in multiple personality disorders) stopped sending me his damned business cards every week." Ha ha... brilliant!
- WOW!!! what a story. it made me laugh a lot when i read it. in fact, i use the story 4 my literature of physicology class. and the title of my paper calls "Narcisme which caused physicopat" what do u think??
- I just realised that I'm in love with myself after reading this story. That's it, I'm marrying myself!! -- An absolutely wonderful, witty, and thoughtful story. We need more stories from Charlie Fish!
- Excellent story that really tickled me. However I wanted the ending to be a little more surreal and maybe a bit naughty or dangerous. Apart from that a brill yarn!
- I think this was a real good story.
- I liked this story a lot!! It's humorous and makes you think if you could actually live with yourself!!! It's a great book, so, read it and find out for yourself!!
- I liked your idea of the story and the ending... :)
- Very interesting story :)))
- As a married man who has recently started seeing himself on the side, I found the story affirming and remarkably sane.
- I think I'm going to do this. I want to see the faces of my friends when they get the invitations.
- This is a brilliant, witty piece of writing.
- The comment I most enjoyed was: "Am I easy to live with? If I had to live with me could I do it?" GREAT!
- This story is sooooooooooo funny!!! :)
- Hmm, it's ok but I remember Chris Morris producing an offbeat tv programme called Jam that featured a surreal sketch of a man who married himself... Which came first; this or Chris Morris's idea!!?
- Very clever ideas with a sense of humor. I enjoyed the piece.
- Author's comment: The first story I ever wrote with which I am 100% happy. It's not meant to be deeply meaningful, although it has a good moral message in it, it's just meant to be laugh-out-loud funny. It is the result of a conversation I once had with a friend, in which we worked out all of the hilarious implications of marrying yourself. This story has received several web awards.
